We’re finally off to St. Thomas for our honeymoon! We’ll be back next week with tons of pictures, I’m sure.

Star asked me and Binh to be in his and Vanessa’s wedding bridal party, after which Vanessa proclaimed that I’d be “standing on her side.” That comment was comical. They’re obviously still working out the details to their big day (no date has been set yet), which (from what I hear) will entail two different ceremonies — a Chinese tea ceremony in Garland and a destination wedding on St. John’s in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

All this wedding talk made me think of how I had asked my closest girlfriends to be my bridesmaids. I didn’t want the moment to be so simplistic that they’d forget, so I came up with a creative idea and a creative way to ask each of them. I made each one a personalized 11×11 frame that included some scrapbook pieces, a picture of us together and a little rhyme. I also made it a point to ask each one of them in person because I had prepared “notes” for each of them…. of course, with the exception of Jody and Jackie since they were living in different states at the moment. I know that I may have made something easy a bit dramatic, but I wanted that moment to be special to both myself and my bridesmaids.

I couldn’t find a picture of the personalized frames in my photobook, so I pulled this one off Christina’s blog. Here’s a sample of what the gifts looked like:

My company had another set of RIFs today (Reduction In Force). I got lucky (although luck may not have anything to do with it) and am safe (for now). Our group of seven is now down to two. Ugh, I’m so over it. I found this comic online, which similarily resembles our working environment right now. Ironically enough, just last month our management team began allowing more telecommuting because of high gas prices…. go figure.

The Olympics are turning me into mush. Seriously. I’ve been watching the Olympic medal awards ceremonies, and I get teary-eyed every time they play the national anthem when an American wins a gold. I know, it’s pathetic but I can’t help it – I’m just so excited for them. I think I can shed a tear at the most silliest things… what is wrong with me… maybe it’s like some sort of watery eye syndrome.

We had a pretty eventful weekend. My mom went into the hospital on Saturday afternoon because she was in pain from what she initially thought was heartburn…. but after some tests, the pain was actually gallstones. The doctor/nurse said she had enough liver enzymes to admit her that same night and that the doctor would be in on Sunday for surgery to remove her gallbladder.

When I got home that night, I decided to look up what gallstones were and what your gallbladder does. As if I shouldn’t trust the doctor or the nurses, lol. According to WebMd.com, the gallbladder is a small sac found just under the liver, and it stores bile made by the liver (bile helps you digest fats). Gallstones are made from cholesterol and other things found in the bile. They can be smaller than a grain of sand or as large as a golf ball, but most gallstones don’t cause problems… but if they block a duct, they usually need treatment. It says that people who are overweight or who are trying to lose weight quickly are more likely to get gallstones. What’s interesting is that your body will work fine without a gallbladder because bile will flow straight from the liver to the intestine. WebMd.com says that there may be small changes in how you digest food, but you probably will not notice them.

It’s good to know that our body contains extra organs that we don’t necessarily need, but the most important thing I learned over the weekend are the symptoms of having gallstones! Other than that, my mom’s doing fine and supposed to be discharged today.

We’re silly… and sometimes we can be a little stupid, lol. We were able to talk Jackie into coming to dinner tonight, even though she’s boycotting the Olympics Opening Ceremony because they’re being hosted in China. Hence the “Free Tibet” shirt she’s wearing. So the guys thought they’d be funny and used their airsoft guns to hold her hostage while she’s performing meditation. Those aren’t real guns so don’t fret… they’re used for airsoft and only shoot beebees, lol.

Star proposed to his girlfriend, Vanessa, this evening! He kept it pretty low key and proposed at Vanessa’s apartment, then took her to one of her favorite shows – the circus – afterwards. After the circus, they met up with the rest of us at Waiming’s apartment to celebrate. Vanessa’s ring is pretty and very much like her (in a bezel setting). No date’s been set yet, but they’re both happy and we’re happy for them!

Work’s been a little painful lately. The company’s going through some transitions and another round of layoffs happened today. I am – and my entire team much less – are without someone to report to and we’re basically in limbo. I spend my days on meebo chatting with friends, checking emails, surfing the net and applying for jobs. Yup, you read that right, I’m actively looking now… I’ve had two very good phone screenings, so I hope something develops out of them. Other than that… I count down the hours at work until I can go home…. or I spend my time debating if I should just work from home, lol. Gawd, it’s painful.
